EU will extend its sanctions against Belarus, Polish MEP predicts
The Council of the European Union will vote on October 15 to extend its sanctions against the Belarusian government, Polish MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, who co-chairs the Working Group on Belarus in the EU-Neighborhood East Parliamentary Assembly (EURONEST PA), predicted during the Group's meeting in Brussels on Thursday.
Representatives of the United Civic Party (UCP), the Belarusian Popular Front, the "Spravedlivy Mir" (Just World) Belarusian Party of the Left, the "Tell the Truth!" movement, the Movement for Freedom, and the Belarusian Christian Democracy party participated in the meeting, according to the UCP press office.
Dr. Saryusz-Wolski noted that although Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey had also been invited to attend the meeting, he had not even answered the invitation.
As many as 243 Belarusian citizens and 32 economic entities are currently subject to the European Union's travel bans and asset freezes for their role in human rights violations in Belarus and support of the Lukashenka regime. //BelaPAN
