Belarus, Russia approve scenario of 2013 joint military exercise

The defense ministries of Belarus and Russia, at their joint board meeting in Moscow on October 23, approved the scenario of a bilateral military exercise to be staged in 2013.

The scenario of the Zapad (West) 2013 wargame takes into account the peculiarities and nature of the most recent military conflicts, according to the Belarusian defense ministry's press office.

The maneuvers will take place at two training grounds in Belarus.

The meeting also focused on the implementation of the defense ministries' 2010-2012 plan of joint action to ensure the Belarusian-Russian Union State's military security.

More than 70 joint events have already been held in accordance with the plan. The two countries have signed agreements for the creation of a joint communications system, electronic warfare cooperation, the joint protection of the Union State's airspace, and the creation of a common air defense system, the press office said. //BelaPAN
