Latvia promises favorable conditions for Belarusian cargoes

Latvia is ready to create favorable conditions for the transportation of Belarusian cargoes through its seaports, Transport Minister Aivis Ronis said at a meeting with Belarusian Ambassador Alyaksandr Herasimenka in Riga on November 8.

The minister confirmed Latvia's readiness to allow Belarus to lease or buy facilities in its seaports, according to the Belarusian foreign ministry's press office.

The minister and the ambassador also expressed satisfaction with a rise in two-way trade and noted that the further development of border and railroad infrastructure would yield mutual benefits, said the press office.

Mr. Ronis reportedly said that Latvia was ready to take part in projects aimed at raising the traffic capacity of the rail route linking the two countries.

The meeting came one day before Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced that Belarus would divert most of its cargoes from seaports in Latvia and Lithuania to seaports in Russia's Leningrad province. //BelaPAN
