Minsk supports OSCE member states' efforts to build true security community, official says

Further joint efforts by the member states of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to build a true security community in the framework of the ‘Helsinki + 40’ discussion initiated by the organization's Irish Chairmanship have a great importance, Raman Ramanowski, head of the Belarusian foreign ministry's European Cooperation Directorate, said at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna.

The meeting focused on preparations for a meeting of the OSCE foreign ministers that will be held in Dublin on December 6 and 7, said the Belarusian foreign ministry's press office.

Mr. Ramanowski used the speech to set out Belarus' "approaches and priorities" regarding draft documents to be approved at the ministerial meeting. He emphasized the need to reform the organization, the press office said.

Mr. Ramanowski spoke about joint initiatives by Belarus and fellow members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization concerning documents to be adopted at the Dublin meeting, including those dealing with "aggressive nationalism, violent extremism, neo-Nazism and neo-fascism, the improvement of the OSCE's work to monitor elections, as well as efforts to secure the freedom of movement," according to the press office. //BelaPAN
