Permanent Committee of Belarusian-Russian Union State signs memorandum of understanding with Eurasian Economic Commission
The Permanent Committee of the Belarusian-Russian Union State and the Eurasian Economic Commission signed a memorandum of understanding in Moscow on Thursday.
The memorandum was inked by Viktor Khristenko, chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Grigory Rapota, state secretary of the Union State.
"The objectives pursued by the Eurasian Economic Commission are extremely important for us,” said Mr. Rapota. “We will now have to use the practical experience that the Eurasian Economic Commission has. In particular, statistical issues are very important because we should use common data."
Under the memorandum, the Permanent Committee of the Union State and the Eurasian Economic Commission will work together to establish cooperation in the field of trade policy, simplify trade procedures and technical regulations, standardize and use uniform measuring units, establish energy cooperation and pursue a common migration policy.
The agreement on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Commission was signed in Moscow on November 18, 2011. Under the agreement, the Commission is expected to replace the Customs Union Commission, a supranational governing body within the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, ensure the proper functioning of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Zone, and generate proposals for economic integration within the framework of the Customs Union. //BelaPAN
