Lukashenka tells State Control Committee to step up work to detect crime

Alyaksandr Lukashenka urged on Friday the State Control Committee (SCC) to intensify its work to detect crime and deter businesspeople from illegal activities.

"It seems to me that the State Control Committee has been slowing down its work," the presidential press office quoted him as saying during a meeting with SCC Chairman Alyaksandr Yakabson.

Mr. Lukashenka acknowledged that the amount of fines collected by the agency from businesses was increasing, but warned that its performance "cannot be measured only in money."

"Those who work poorly and especially those who plot illegal acts against the state and state property should be left shaking by any mention of the State Control Committee," he was quoted as saying.

"The State Control Committee is a very responsible and serious organization, and I want you to deliver decent results starting next year. You should know that we need a result, including a public result, so that people understand that we have 'predatory fish in the pond,' so that certain people remain on the watch." //BelaPAN
