Belarusian prime minister pays tribute to Hugo Chavez
Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich visited the Venezuelan embassy in Minsk on Thursday to write a message of condolences over the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
On behalf of the Belarusian government and on his personal behalf, Mr. Myasnikovich expressed deep condolences to the family of Mr. Chavez and to the entire Venezuelan nation, according to the Council of Ministers press office.
"The Republic of Belarus deeply mourns the death of an outstanding political leader of modern times, a great son of his people, a reliable friend of our country, a colorful and strong person," Mr. Myasnikovich reportedly wrote in the embassy's book of condolences.
He described Mr. Chavez as a "real patriot of his people who brought the long-awaited independence and hope for a better future to Venezuela."
Mr. Myasnikovich played up the contribution of Mr. Chavez to the development of "friendly relations" between Belarus and Venezuela and their trade and economic cooperation.
Mr. Myasnikovich promised that the Belarusian government would do everything for the two countries to carry out their joint projects. //BelaPAN
