Traffic on highways back to normal after blizzard
Traffic on major Belarusian highways returned to normal on Sunday morning after a fierce snow storm that caused severe travel chaos and left thousands of people stranded in their vehicles for hours.
All travel restrictions had been lifted by the morning of March 17, after a massive clean-up effort that involved thousands units of special equipment. There were no traffic jams, according to the emergency management ministry.
The March 15 blizzard knocked out power to homes in more than 1,600 localities, and six villages in the Babruysk and Minsk districts remained without electricity on Sunday morning.
Emergency management crews continued working to repair residential and farm buildings damaged by strong winds on Friday. //BelaPAN
