Lukashenka: Singapore is ideal venue for promoting Belarusian goods in Asian, Pacific region
Singapore is an ideal venue for promoting Belarusian goods in the Asian and Pacific region, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said while holding talks with Singapore's leaders on March 21.
Mr. Lukashenka and Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam, at their meeting, noted "mutual interest in building full-scale relations between the two countries," according to the Belarusian leader's press office.
While meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Mr. Lukashenka said that trade between the two countries totaled only $26.5 million last year. "This is absolutely insufficient considering that there are many potential spheres for our cooperation. We can and should increase our trade by tens of times. This is the goal that we must set ourselves," he was quoted as saying.
Mr. Lukashenka invited Singaporean companies to acquire stakes in Belarusian state-owned enterprises.
He reportedly said that Minsk was impressed by the results of Singapore's economic policy. //BelaPAN
