Former KGB chief appointed CEO of major cable company
Vadzim Zaytsaw, a former head of the Committee for State Security (KGB), has been appointed director general of Cosmos TV, a major Belarusian-Russian cable television operator and Internet service provider.
In addition, the charter of Cosmos TV has been amended to establish a supervisory board and a directorate, according to the company’s press office.
The establishment of the new bodies is expected to greately improve the system of corporate management and allow stockholders to properly supervise the company’s activities, the press office said.
Vadzim Zaytsaw was born in Ukraine in 1964 into the family of a military serviceman. He graduated from the Moscow Higher Border Guard Command School of the USSR KGB in 1986 and from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in 2004. He worked his way from deputy chief of a border outpost to first deputy chief of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
He served as chairman of the KGB chairman between July 2008 and November 2012.
Founded in 1993, Cosmos TV has more than 400,000 cable subscribers in Minsk and the Minsk district. The Belarusian government owns a 50-percent stake in Cosmos TV. Acado holds the other 50 percent in the company. //BelaPAN
