President of Laos arrives in Minsk

 

Choummaly Sayasone, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and president of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, arrived in Minsk on June 30.

According to the press office of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, the Belarusian leader is to meet with Mr. Choummaly on Monday, July 1.

The talks are expected to result in the signing of a number of agreements.

Mr. Choummaly is also to have meetings with top-ranking representatives of the Council of Ministers and the National Assembly and to visit a number of industrial and agricultural companies and some historical and cultural sites, the press office said.

A Belarusian-Laotian business forum is to be held in Minsk on Monday. The event, organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI), is expected to be attended by BCCI Chairman Mikalay Myatlikaw, LNCCI President Thiravong Sisavath, officials of the two countries` foreign ministries and the Belarusian economy ministry and representatives of 17 Lao and 20 Belarusian companies.

Lao and Belarusian businesspeople will hold talks on cooperation in machine-building, agriculture, food production, tourism, construction and mining, the BCCI press office reported.

A cooperation agreement is to be signed between the two chambers.

The Lao president’s state visit to Belarus will last until July 3.

A Belarusian delegation led by Economy Minister Mikalay Snapkow stayed in Laos on June 17 and 18.

According to the press office of the Belarusian foreign ministry, the delegation included Leanid Dzyamidaw, first deputy head of the State Committee on Science and Technologies; Deputy Agriculture Minister Vasil Kazakevich; representatives of the BCCI, AAT PramAhraLeasing (heavy-equipment leasing company), and companies under the authority of the industry ministry and the Belarusian State Petrochemical Industry Concern (Belnaftakhim). //BelaPAN
