Nine people killed, 10 injured in head-on collision near Orsha
Nine people were killed and 10 others were injured in a head-on collision between a minibus and a car in the Orsha district, Vitsyebsk region, on Sunday morning.
The accident occurred at about 7:20 a.m. in good visibility conditions on a straight stretch of the St. Petersburg-Odessa highway near the village of Babinichy, Andrey Semyanikhin, spokesperson for the Vitseybsk regional police department, told BelaPAN.
The driver and the four passengers of the Russian-registered Opel Omega car and three passengers of the Ukrainian-registered Mercedes Sprinter, a 17-seater minibus, died on the spot and one more passenger of the minibus died later in the hospital.
The Opel Omega, registered in St. Petersburg, was reportedly carrying four citizens of Uzbekistan and one citizen of Azerbaijan. All the killed passengers of the minibus were citizens of Ukraine.
There were 14 people in the Mercedes Sprinter, according to the Belarusian emergency management ministry.
All the injured, residents of Ukraine`s Odessa province, were taken to Orsha City Hospital No. 1.
Experienced investigators and technicians from the head office of the Investigative Committee of Belarus examined the scene of the crash, Yuliya Hancharova, spokesperson for the Committee, told BelaPAN.
Valyantsin Shayew, head of the Investigative Committee, and one of the deputy heads of the Committee visited the scene.
