Volha Klaskowski's mother appeals to Sweden's Queen Silvia

The mother of Volha Klaskowski has appealed to Sweden's Queen Silvia to help the convicted Belarusian journalist.

On Tuesday, Lyudmila Klaskowski delivered a letter containing the appeal to the Swedish embassy in Minsk. She handed a copy of the letter to Sweden’s charge d’affaires in Belarus, Martin Oberg.

In the appeal, Lyudmila Klaskowski describes the case against her daughter, who was accused of attempting to murder her former husband, and claims that "clearly falsified facts" were later inserted into her case records.

This can be explained by the fact that "the victim" has personal connections at the police station that conducted the investigation, she writes.

The woman notes that Volha had her baby son taken away from her by Swedish social workers on February 13, 2013, and has not seen him ever since.

Volha Klaskowski urges Queen Silvia not to "let the act of lawlessness take place only because Olga [Volha] is not a Swedish citizen."

Volha Klaskowski was arrested near Stockholm on March 30 on suspicion of attempting to murder her former husband over a dispute concerning their son. The 30-year-old woman reportedly stabbed the man several times in the city of Haninge.

Weeks before the incident, the Belarusian was denied a residence permit by Swedish authorities and had her son taken away from her and handed over to her former husband.

She was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to eight years in prison on August 23. The Court of Appeal in Stockholm is scheduled to hear her appeal between October 23 and 25. //BelaPAN
