As many as 9,608 people enrolled as members of Brest region’s precinct commissions for March local elections

 

A total of 9,608 people have been enrolled as members of precinct election commissions in the Brest region for local elections to be held this March.

As Alyaksandr Kalyada, a departmental head at the Brest Regional Executive Committee, told BelaPAN, the number includes 6,675 women, or 69.5 percent of the total number, and 989 people aged under 30, or 10.3 percent.

Out of the members, 4,094 were nominated through the collection of voters` signatures; 3,868 were nominated by non-governmental organizations; 1,594 were nominated by “worker collectives”; and 52 were nominated by political parties, including 34 members of the Communist Party of Belarus, nine members of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice, six members of the Belarusian Popular Front and three members of the Spravedlivy Mir (Just World) Belarusian Party of the Left.

Candidates will compete for a total of 3,042 seats in the region's local soviets (councils), including 57 seats in the Brest Regional Council, 512 seats in district councils and 2,239 seats in village councils. //BelaPAN
