Repeat DUI offender in Brest sentenced to five and half years in prison for causing fatal traffic accident
A young Brest man has been sentenced to five and a half years in a low-security correctional institution for causing a traffic accident resulting in the death of two people while being intoxicated.
The accident occurred on the Brest-Domachava highway on August 22, 2013.
As Eduard Pashkevich, a senior aide to the regional prosecutor told BelaPAN, the 22-year-old man was driving his Audi A8 at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour, with the limit being 90 kilometers an hour, when he lost control of his vehicle near the village of Pryluki.
After the Audi went into a roadside ditch, crashed into a tree and overturned, two male passengers in the car, aged 22 and 23, died on the spot, while the driver and a 21-year-old man who was traveling in the front passenger seat suffered multiple injuries.
The driver was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.11, with the legal limit being 0.03, Mr. Pashkevich noted.
In addition, it turned out that the man had his driver`s license suspended for five years in November 2010 after he had been caught drunk behind the wheel for a second time within a year, Mr. Pashkevich said. //BelaPAN
