Lukashenka appoints new director for Presidential Administration’s Information and Analytical Center

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has, by his presidential edict, dismissed Alyaksandr Bazanaw from his position as director of the Information and Analytical Center of the Presidential Administration in connection with his retirement, the presidential press office reported on Friday.

Mr. Bazanaw was appointed to the position in November 2010.

Prior to the appointment, Mr. Bazanaw served as counselor at the Belarusian embassy in Germany. In the early 2000s, he headed the Information and Public Relations Center of the Committee for State Security (KGB).

In February 2011, Mr. Bazanaw was added to the European Union’s list of Belarusian citizens subject to travel bans and asset freezes within the EU for their role in human rights violations and the persecution of political opponents.

By another presidential edict, Mr. Lukashenka has appointed Alyaksey Dzerbin to serve as director of the Information and Analytical Center instead of Mr. Bazanaw. // BelaPAN
