Lukashenka warns Minsk authorities against foot-dragging on investors' projects

Alyaksandr Lukashenka warned on Monday that the Minsk city authorities should not drag their feet on projects proposed by private investors.

While receiving Andrey Shorats, head of the city executive committee, Mr. Lukashenka said that such projects should be approved in a faster procedure. "The head of state directed that… foot-dragging and red tape should be eliminated and that as much comfortable conditions as possible should be secured, so that the investor builds and spends money instead of walking around government offices," the government's news agency BelTA quoted Mr. Shorats as saying after the meeting.

Mr. Lukashenka gave his approval to the city government's proposal for converting baby carriage storage and switchboard rooms on the ground floors of apartment buildings into rental apartments. There are 461 such rooms in Minsk, and only 109 cannot be used as residential premises, according to the official. // BelaPAN
