Lukashenka said to have won with 83.49 percent
Lidziya Yarmoshyna, head of the central election commission, announced at about 2:30 a.m. on Monday that according to preliminary data, Alyaksandr Lukashenka had won a fifth term as president with 83.49 percent of the vote in Belarus’ October 6-11 presidential election.
According to Ms. Yarmoshyna, the incumbent was followed by Tatsyana Karatkevich with 4.42 percent, Syarhey Haydukevich with 3.32 percent and Mikalay Ulakhovich with 1.67 percent, with 6.4 percent voting against all the candidates.
Mr. Lukashenka reportedly won 86.75 percent of the vote in the previous, 2010 presidential election, 83 percent in 2006 and 75.65 percent in 2001.
He said last week that he would like to receive no less than 80 percent in the 2015 presidential election to have a strong position in the international arena. // BelaPAN
