Prime Minister Myasnikovich opens rail transportation conference in Minsk

Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich played up on Thursday the Belarusian government's plans to develop railroad transportation. "The government devotes much attention to the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects and the railroad's integration into the international system of transport corridors," he said while opening an international rail transportation conference in Minsk. Belarus has carried out state programs to develop its transport infrastructure, according to the prime minister. Mr. Myasnikovich acknowledged that transport companies had to face stiff competition in the global market. "Economic, technical and political methods are employed in fight for markets," he said. "That is why transparency, openness, accessibility, the speed of freight handling, passenger transportation, quality and attractive prices are the foundation that you must rely on in your strategy." "The role of Belarus as one of Eurasia's key transit arteries has become even greater following the establishment of the Customs Union," said Mr. Myasnikovich.
