CIS observation official meets with head of OSCE/ODIHR mission
Nauryz Aidarov, chief of the headquarters of the CIS observation mission for Belarus’ House of Representatives elections, met in Minsk on August 22 with Geert-Hinrich Ahrens, head of the long-term observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
According to the Minsk office of the CIS Executive Committee, the meeting focused on issues relating to the organization of the two missions’ activities. The sides reportedly agreed to cooperate during the monitoring period at the level of both the heads of the missions and experts.
An agreement was reached that Dr. Ahrens would meet with CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, who heads the CIS observation mission, on September 28, the main polling day in the elections.
On August 25, Mr. Lebedev, a former chief of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, is scheduled to visit the Mahilyow region, where he is expected to meet with the leadership of the Mahilyow Regional Executive Committee and visit some district and precinct election commissions.
