Some 10,000 draftees to join military units before September 30
About 10,000 young men have been recruited for compulsory military service this summer and are to join military units between July 14 and September 30, the defense ministry's press office told BelaPAN.
As many as 2,000 more have been called up for service in the reserve.
A group of draftees were expected to head for their military units after a solemn seeing-off ceremony at the Zavodski district military registration and enlistment office in Minsk.
Under Belarusian regulations, the young men who turned 18 before the call-up date and who are not on deferment are eligible for army draft. Also eligible are men of older ages who have lost the right to deferment.
