Egg attack on pro-government Communists on October Revolution anniversary

An egg attack by three young opposition activists interrupted a rally held by members of the pro-government Communist Party of Belarus (CPB) in Independence Square in Minsk on November 7 on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the October Revolution.

Some 100 CPB members, including House of Representatives members Ihar Karpenka and Tatsyana Holubeva, laid flowers at the monument to the revolution’s leader, Vladimir Lenin, at the center of the square. As the ceremony was followed by the rally, Malady Front members Pavel Syarhey, Raman Vasilyew and Mikhail Muski shouted “Communist must be put on trial!” and hurled several eggs toward the monument before trying to flee the scene. However, they were grabbed by police officers in plain clothes, bundled into a minibus and driven away. They were expected to be brought to the Maskowski district police department.

In a statement, Malady Front said that the attack was meant to remind the public about Communist “crimes.”
