Taj Indian Restaurant hosts event promoting national cuisine

The Taj Indian Restaurant in Minsk on Tuesday hosted an event to promote India’s authentic cuisine, BelaPAN reports.

The event was organized within the framework of the Best Product 2010 contest instituted in 1998 to study consumers’ preferences and promote food products.

Forty-eight companies are taking part in the contest this year, organizer Ihar Danilaw said at the presentation event.

Ninety-five companies more are about to sign appropriate papers to join the list of competitors, he said.

Indian Ambassador Ramesh Chandra (photo 6) said that the best product was a “human being.” “The best product is produced by human beings,” he said. “When human beings are good, the product is equally good."

The ambassador said that he hoped that the event at the Taj Indian Restaurant would convince the public that “India can also produce something good.”

The event featured Indian dances (photo 1), apart from national dishes (photos 3, 5).

The chef showed how to cook a samosa, a small turnover filled with vegetables that has been enjoying a pride of place in Indian palate since time immemorial (photos 2,4).

He noted that the secret to dishes` success was to cook them “from the heart.”

Visitors were invited to try the food (photos 7, 8, 9, 10) following the masterclass.
