Sannikaw says that his nomination group has collected over half of required number of ballot-access signatures
Opposition presidential hopeful Andrey Sannikaw told a BelaPAN correspondent in Mahilyow on Tuesday that his nomination group had already collected more than half of the number of signatures required to gain access to the ballot.
Presidential contenders are to gather at least 100,000 valid voter signatures between September 30 and October 30 to be registered as candidates.
"While visiting Babruysk and Mahilyow, I saw that people were rather eager to place their signatures in my support," Mr. Sannikaw said. "Many of the signatures are from elderly people who are disappointed with Alyaksandr Lukashenka and his dictatorial regime. This is a distinguishing feature of the current election campaign."
