Subway bombing in Minsk should bring Belarusians closer together, says top Catholic cleric in Easter address

The April 11 deadly bombing in Minsk should bring the Belarusians closer together and arouse responsibility in them for their future, life and country, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, head of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus, said in his Easter address to the clergy and laity.

Msgr. Kondrusiewicz said that this year’s Easter was special as the entire Christendom celebrated it on one day.

“But unfortunately, this year’s Easter goes along with a feeling of strong commiseration and deep grief in our country in connection with the terrorist attack in the Minsk subway,” he said. “Our holiday has been clouded by the attack. Through the truth of the Resurrection, we should look at the tragedy in Minsk that became Golgotha.”

“In the light of the Gospel, we want to give people a new hope and tell all those who have fallen victims or mourns over their relatives that there is a hope and the deaths of the Minsk subway bombing will not be in vain,” said Msgr. Kondrusiewicz.

“Let this sacrifice, which is the sacrifice of Jesus Chris, bring all of us, our entire society, to the Resurrection so that we could build a true civilization of life, love and mutual respect.”
