Motorists lining up at filling stations ahead of rise in motor fuel prices

Motorists across Belarus lined up at filling stations on Monday to buy gasoline and diesel fuel that are expected to increase significantly in price on Tuesday following the National Bank’s decision to devalue the Belarusian rubel by 56 percent to the dollar.

A woman told BelaPAN at a filling station in Minsk: “Well, I am going to fill my car with 25 liters… But don’t video me after that. I have only swear words left.”

The press office of state petrochemical conglomerate Belnaftakhim said earlier in the day that the retail prices of gasoline and diesel fuel in Belarus would be raised by 20 percent on the average on May 24.

In particular, the retail price of A-95 gasoline is to be increased by 600 rubels to 4,350 rubels ($1.38 at the official exchange rate) per liter, A-92 gasoline by 650 rubels to 3,950 rubels, Normal-80 gasoline by 700 rubels to 3,850 rubels, and diesel fuel by 750 rubels to 3,900 rubels.
