Italian embassy denies reports that Berlusconi will visit Minsk this month
The Italian embassy in Minsk on Tuesday denied reports that Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi may visit Belarus this month.
The diplomatic mission said in a statement that the reports were groundless.
Italy`s ANSA news agency said on May 23 with reference to the Italian prime minister`s lawyer that Mr. Berlusconi would not be able to attend hearings in separate trials on May 30 and 31 due to a planned trip to Belarus.
Mr. Berlusconi is currently involved in four trials and is to answer charges of, among other, sex with an underage woman, embezzlement and tax fraud.
Mr. Berlusconi visited Minsk in October 2009, becoming the first leader of a European Union country to travel to Belarus after the suspension of the 27-nation bloc`s sanctions against top Belarusian government officials.
