Slonim authorities reject Belarusian Christian Democracy's application for demonstration in support of political prisoners
The authorities in Slonim, Hrodna region, have rejected an application by local members of the unregistered Belarusian Christian Democracy (BCD) party to hold demonstrations in support of political prisoners and in protest against a slump in the population’s income amid the ongoing economic crisis in the country.
The BCD press office said that the activists had planned to stage the demonstrations in the city with 48,800 residents on August 6 and 14.
The authorities replied that their application had been improperly executed.
“We won’t appeal the authorities’ decision,” said Ivan Bedka, a Slonim-based activist of BCD. “It is impossible to win a case in court in this country under the rule of the current authorities.” //BelaPAN
