Conference held in Minsk on Belarusian studies in United States

The Minsk-based Center of Intercultural Dialogue on Tuesday held a conference on Belarusian studies in the United States.

"At present people who deal with science, culture, education, business or diplomacy know very little about the state of Belarusian studies in the United States," said Lyubow Uladykowskaya, director of the center.

"The objective of our conference is to gather all information, analyze the state of Belarusian studies in the USA and in a joint brain storm session propose ways of expanding what people know about our country in the United States."

The conference brought together people from different walks of life, including priests and businesspeople, she said.

"We have decided that our leading channel of communicating information [about Belarus] will be Belarusian businesses in the USA. Knowledge is distributed not only through some research and cultural projects but also thanks to migration. People move to another country and often start a business. It is very important for successful people to keep their connection with the homeland. Knowledge about Belarus is distributed through various business projects, trips. We all together must determine ways of popularizing our country abroad," Ms. Uladykowskaya said. //BelaPAN
