Most CSTO member states oppose international sanctions against Belarus, Russian envoys says
Most of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) oppose any international sanctions against Belarus, Igor Lyakin-Frolov, Russia’s permanent representative to the bloc, said on April 6.
“Most of the CSTO countries have spoken in support of Minsk and against economic pressure or pressure through force,” Russian news agency RIA Novosti quoted the envoy as saying.
According to him, the bloc’s members call for establishing a “constructive dialogue” between Belarus and the European Union.
The CSTO consists of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Mr. Lyakin-Frolov’s remarks came on the day when the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers adopted a statement in support of the organization’s cooperation with NATO and the institutions of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
The Russian envoy announced that the CSTO heads of state would hold their summit in Moscow on May 15. The CSTO Inter-Parliamentary Assembly will hold its meeting in St.Petersburg two days later. //BelaPAN
