Consumer prices reported up 0.9 percent in first 11 days of June
Consumer prices in Belarus increased by 0.9 percent in the first 11 days of June, reported the National Statistics Committee (Belstat).
According to Belstat, between May 1 and May 11, the highest increases occurred in the prices of gasoline (5.3 percent), bread and bakery products (3.7 percent), beer (1.9 percent), beef, excluding boneless beef, butter and fabrics (1.7 percent), boneless beef (1.6 percent), mayonnaise (1.5 percent), and "first-grade" cooked sausages, semi-finished poultry products, curds, kefir, cheeses, wheat flour, and soft drinks (0.6 to 1.3 percent).
Buckwheat reportedly decreased in price by one percent, eggs by 0.9 percent, frozen fish by 0.6 percent, millet by 0.4 percent, and vegetable oil, excluding olive oil, by 0.3 percent.
Child day care services increased in price by 9.2 percent, health resort treatment by 6.6 percent, utility services provided to households by 6.5 percent, cultural services by 2.8 percent, passenger transportation services by 2.1 percent, and consumer services by 1.3 percent.
Belstat earlier reported that consumer prices in Belarus rose by 8.5 percent in the first five months of 2012.
Last year saw an unprecedented inflation rate of 108.7 percent.
The government initially projected inflation to slow down to 19 to 22 percent in 2012, but Alyaksandr Lukashenka suggested in February that the government should revise its inflation projection for the year downward to 13 to 15 percent. // BelaPAN
