Lukashenka expresses opposition to appointment of young people to top government jobs

 

Alyaksandr Lukashenka on Tuesday expressed opposition to the appointment of young people to top government jobs.

"People aged 30 or 28 do not have the experience that would allow them to work normally. I would appoint a 30-year-old minister if I were fully convinced that this person is a wunderkind," he told a group of visiting Russian reporters in Minsk.

According to him, a minister must have enough experience and competence to manage "thousands of enterprises."

Mr. Lukashenka named Valery Tsapkala, head of the administration of the High-Technology Park, and Aleh Rumo, head of the Center for Organ and Tissue Transplantation, as successful young managers.
Mr. Lukashenka also referred to Alyaksandr Barowski, now director general of Minsk Automobile Plant who was in prison in the past over crimes that he committed as chairman of the Belarusian State Petrochemical Industry Concern. "He is 61. You know I often say jokingly that all members of the cabinet must be put in prison for some time to make them work like he does," he said. "I have recently awarded an order to this man. If it were not for this crisis, he would be awarded the title of Hero of Belarus."

It is the Presidential Administration that picks people for government jobs, according to Mr. Lukashenka. "We have the president's register of human resources that includes some 900 people. It is constantly extended, it has never been reduced," he said. // BelaPAN
