Lukashenka directs that modernization of flax industry be completed by 2015

 

Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who inspected Shklow Flax Mill in the Mahilyow region on December 15, directed that the modernization of Belarus’ flax industry be completed before the end of 2014, reported the government’s news agency BelTA.

“In 2015, we should have 18 enterprises that would [annually] produce 60,000 tons of flax fiber of high quality and of a certain size for us,” the Belarusian leader said.

He pointed out that at least 35 percent of flax mills’ equipment should be of domestic origin, and that the modernization of Orsha Flax Mill, the largest one in the country, which was initially scheduled to be over by 2012, should be fully completed in a year.

Mr. Lukashenka suggested that Belarus should export finished linen products, not flax fiber or linen fabric, because this would be several times more profitable, and that the yield of flax fiber per hectare should increase to 1.2 tons and the yield of flaxseed per hectare to 600 kilograms. //BelaPAN
