Lukashenka directs that Belarus be protected against new information threats
Alyaksandr Lukashenka directed Friday that Belarus should be protected against new threats in the sphere of information technologies.
"Look at how radically the world has changed, how massively information influences every individual," the Belarusian leader said, speaking at a ceremony at which he presented doctor’s degree and professor title certificates to a group of researchers and lecturers. "Apart from progressive things, it also creates unprecedented opportunities to manipulate both an individual and huge masses of people."
"The very nature of this phenomenon requires a thorough examination so that we can extract all the good out of the new computer civilization and protect ourselves from new threats," Mr. Lukashenka noted.
He also drew attention to the need to involve the scientific community in solving social problems. "Social science should give us profound understanding of the transformations that are happening in the world and unavoidably affect us," he said.
He suggested increasing the role of science in the process of developing decisions, plans and social and economic forecasts for the country's development.
"To decide on these important issues, we need young creative researchers," he stressed. //BelaPAN
