Days of Lithuanian Culture in Belarus opens in Minsk

A ceremony marking the start of Days of Lithuanian Culture in Belarus was held at the Baltic country`s embassy in Minsk on May 3.

The two-month event is held on the occasion of the start of the Lithuanian presidency of the European Union.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lithuanian Ambassador Evaldas Ignatavicius said that the two countries were close "historically and geographically" but lacked knowledge about each other.

He stressed that the number of Belarusians traveling to Lithuania was rising and so was the number of joint projects in various spheres.

The ambassador revealed that he studied Belarusian and hoped to be able to speak the language fluently in the future.
The schedule of Days of Lithuanian Culture in Belarus includes exhibitions of photographs, premieres of theatrical shows, a historical conference, and tourism, literary and cinematographic events.

The ceremony was attended by Alena Kupchyna, Belarus` deputy foreign minister; Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, Belarus` top Roman Catholic cleric; and Uladzimir Drazhyn, the Belarusian ambassador to Lithuania. The latter announced that Days of Belarusian Culture in Lithuania would be held this fall. //BelaPAN
