Human remains found at construction site for Hotel Beijing in Minsk

A large number of supposedly human bones were discovered during excavation work at the construction site for Hotel Beijing in downtown Minsk on April 30, a spokesperson for the city office of the Investigative Committee of Belarus told BelaPAN.

Construction workers dug up the bones at a depth of about 3.5 meters while excavating a pit for the foundation of the five-star hotel, the spokesperson said. Bone pieces that looked like fragments of human skulls were found among them.

The remains are believed to be at least half a century old.

In 2012, local residents collected signatures against the construction of Hotel Beijing in 40th October Anniversary Park and even filed a suit, but to no avail. Dozens of trees were cut down in the landmark park to make room for the hotel.
