Lukashenka notes tense security situation around Belarus’ borders
Alyaksandr Lukashenka claimed on May 9 that there was a tense security situation around Belarus’ borders, hinting that the country could become a target of military aggression.
While talking to reporters following a ceremony marking the 68th anniversary of the Nazis’ defeat, Mr. Lukashenka said that ordinary people were unaware of the gravity of the situation and “if something happens there we don’t seek to make it public.”
According to Mr. Lukashenka, Belarus’ foes “walk and gnash their teeth along the borders, looking at our country with hatred.” “Is it because we saved them in the past and sacrificed one third of our population for the sake of humankind? This is unfair and we will always rise against this injustice with our hearts, minds and, if necessary, with weapons in our hands. We always say this honestly and sincerely,” he said.
He said that his priority task as Belarus’ president was to ensure the country’s security. “And we will do so together with you,” he added. //BelaPAN
