Femen activists in Kyiv stage topless protest against Lukashenka’s visit

 

Activists of Ukraine’s feminist group Femen paraded topless in Kyiv on the night between Monday and Tuesday to protest against a visit by Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

“At exactly midnight, Femen sextremists conducted a night raid on the place where Belarusian dictator Lukashenka was spending the night,” the group says in a statement.

The three young women wearing panties and trainers ran around the venue of the protest, screaming and waving burning torches. The slogans “Long Live Belarus!” “Fuck Dictator!” and “Lukashenka Animal” were painted over their bodies.

The protesters were eventually arrested by police.

“Femen reminds Lukashenka about the abuse suffered by its activists in Homyel forests in 2011 at the hands of KGB officers,” the statement says. “Femen reminds Lukashenka about the thousands of beaten and victimized Belarusian heroes who challenged the Lukashenka dictatorship! Femen reminds Lukashenka about the independent journalists who criticized the regime and went missing! Femen reminds Lukashenka about the hundreds of political prisoners illegally held in Belarusian camps! Femen reminds Lukashenka about the ones who were convicted and executed in the Minsk bombing case without evidence!”

Femen calls for a “psychological war against dictators.” “Chase after the blood suckers day and night, don’t give them a chance to sleep or rest!” the group says. “Flush dictators out of all hidey holes, burrows and sleeping places!”

Three Femen members were abducted and terrorized in Belarus after a topless protest in front of the KGB headquarters in Minsk on December 19, 2011.

Their phones went dead several hours after their anti-Lukashenka protest. The women’s whereabouts were not known until the next afternoon, when they phoned an associate to say that they had been abducted, beaten, abused and dumped in a forest near the Ukrainian border, with their phones and passports taken away.

Belarusian police refused to institute criminal proceedings over the incident. // BelaPAN
