Lukashenka to visit Kazakhstan this fall, ambassador says
Alyaksandr Lukashenka is to pay a state visit to Kazakhstan this fall to discuss a broad rage of issues concerning bilateral relations and cooperation within the framework of integration blocs and various international organizations, Yergali Bulegenov, the Kazakh ambassador to Belarus, told reporters in Minsk on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Bulegenov, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev is to visit Belarus in October to take part in a meeting of the heads of state of member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Mr. Nazarbayev is expected to be accompanied by Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov.
In addition, the Belarusian-Kazakh Interstate Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation is scheduled to hold a meeting this fall, Mr. Bulegenov said.
Days of Kazakhstan in Belarus and Days of Belarus in Kazakhstan are scheduled for 2014, according to him.
Political contacts between Belarus and Kazakhstan have been at a high level this year, Mr. Bulegenov said, noting that Mr. Lukashenka had visited Kazakhstan in May to participate in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council of the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan, that Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov had visited Belarus twice since the beginning of the year, and that Anatol Rubinaw, chairman of the Council of the Republic (Belarus’ upper parliamentary house) had paid an official visit to Kazakhstan in April.
"Kazakhstan attaches great importance to the development of good relations with Belarus," Mr. Bulegenov said. "There exist a mutual interest and a mutual understanding. We intend to ensure that the Eurasian Economic Union comes into existence by 2015." // BelaPAN
