Young woman injured as police vehicle ploughs into crowd during celebration in Babruysk

A young woman was injured when a police minibus ploughed into a crowd lining the sidewalk during a celebration held in downtown Babruysk, Mahilyow region, on June 29 on the occasion of the city’s 626th anniversary.

The accident occurred when Special-Task Police Unit (AMAP) officers staged a simulated capture of suspects. They set up a roadblock of two police cars and laid out a spike strip to stop the suspect's Gazel minibus. The driver of the vehicle made a left turn before reaching the roadblock and drove it about a yard onto the sidewalk, causing onlookers to scatter.

The injured 22-year-old woman was transported by an ambulance to the Babruysk Central Hospital, where she was reportedly diagnosed with an ankle fracture.

Other people escaped with fright and light bruises.

Interestingly, the injured woman is said to be the wife of one of the AMAP officers involved in the show. //BelaPAN
