Hanlon to earn $170,000 annually as head coach of Belarusian national hockey team

Glen Hanlon will earn an annual salary of $170,000 as head coach of the Belarusian national hockey team, Yawhen Vorsin, head of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, told reporters in Minsk on July 11.

Mr. Hanlon's two-year contract, with an option of a further year, came into force on July 1.

The Canadian is expected to arrive in Belarus in late July or early August after a schedule of the national team's training camps and friendly games for the 2013/14 season is finalized, according to Mr. Vorsin.
The 56-year-old Hanlon, a former NHL goaltender, served as head coach of Team Belarus in 2005 and 2006 and rejoined the team in May 2008. He led the national team to top eight finishes at the 2006 and 2009 world championships.

He stepped down as Team Belarus head coach in November 2009, less than two weeks after he was fired as head coach of Dinamo Minsk. He had taken the club job just months before.

He was Team Slovakia's head coach at the 2010 and 2011 world championships before returning to Canada.
