«Tell the Truth!» movement's local offices contacted by 2,000 people in 12 months

Some 2,000 people have contacted local offices of the "Tell the Truth!" movement in 12 months, Deputy Chairman Andrey Dzmitryyew told reporters in Minsk on Thursday.

He said that the organization had recruited 100 more activists in the period.

The movement has 18 offices across the country, which address local problems, according to the politician. "The authorities have started inviting our activists to meetings of local soviets, including them in commissions on public discussions and even offering them local government jobs," he said.

The movement plans to field as many as 400 people in next year's local elections, Mr. Dzmitryyew said. The organization will use the elections to promote its "People's Referendum" campaign, which it has been conducting together with the Belarusian Popular Front and the Movement for Freedom, he noted.

"Elections are a rostrum from where you can tell people the truth," he said.

The "Tell the Truth!" movement seeks to promote its ideas in the provinces more actively, said the politician. "We have placed our stake on local leadership. Today the most difficult task is to do your job in a provincial city, keeping your faith and motivation and seeking to achieve a result," he said. //BelaPAN
