Russia lifts ban on pork imports from Belarus
Russia lifted a temporary ban on pork imports from Belarus on October 18.
Belarus was notified of this in a letter that Nikolai Vlasov, deputy head of Russia’s Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Monitoring Service (Rosselkhoznadzor), sent to Yury Pivavarchyk, Belarus’ chief state veterinary inspector.
The ban, which was imposed at the end of August, was lifted from the import of pork products of about 20 Belarusian companies, including Minsk Meat-packing Plant, Barysaw Meat-packing Plants and Ahrakambinat Snow, Rosselkhoznadzor says in a statement.
“Taking into account the results of the laboratory monitoring of safety at these companies, Rosselkhoznadzor considers it necessary to conduct an intensified monitoring of products coming from these companies,” the statement says. “Samples will be taken from 10 product batches from each of the companies within no more than three months.”
Mr. Vlasov also reminded the Belarusian chief veterinary inspector of the need for laboratory monitoring to examine pigs and pork products for African swine fever. //BelaPAN
