Lukashenka and Correa agree to exchange embassies
Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Rafael Correa agreed at their meeting in Minsk on October 31 that Belarus and Ecuador would establish embassies in each other’s country.
Mr. Correa said that Ecuador would appoint an ambassador to Belarus within the next few months.
At present diplomatic contacts between the two countries are maintained through embassies in Caracas and Moscow.
The establishment of a Belarusian embassy in Quito and an Ecuadorian embassy in Minsk will open up broad opportunities, the president of Ecuador said.
According to him, Ecuador and Belarus have already gained some experience of successful cooperation. For instance, the two countries cooperate in oil exploration and extraction and in the transport sector. “We still have a lot to do and we should move forward faster,” he said.
Mr. Correa noted that Belarus had made substantial achievements in the field of science and technology. “We need the knowledge, skills and technologies that Belarus has,” he said. “Ecuador is rich in natural resources and Belarus is known for its industrial products of high added value. This creates a good opportunity to increase our bilateral trade.”
“Belarus should become closer to Latin America and Latin America should learn more about Belarus,” Mr. Correa stressed. //BelaPAN
