The prime minister emphasized the importance of speeding up the renovation project and ordered its main stage completed by March 1, 2014. The airport will be fully renovated by the end of next year, according to the Council of Ministers' press office.
The airport is expected to increase in size, get refurbished and be made completely handicap-accessible as a result of the renovation. Its heating, air conditioning and lighting equipment will be fully replaced, said the press office.
The renovation is to boost the airport's annual passenger traffic capacity from 3.5 million to 5.8 million.
