Belarus’ exports of services reported up 16.1 percent in first nine months of 2013

Belarus' exports of services in the first nine months of 2013 totaled $5,274.5 million, an increase of 16.1 percent compared with the same period in 2012, reported the National Statistical Committee (Belstat).

According to Belstat, imports of services totaled $3,265.8 million, a 15.4-percent year-on-year increase. The export surplus thus amounted to $2,008.7 million, up from $293.8 million in the first nine months of 2012.

Member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) accounted for 32.7 percent of the total amount of services exported in the first nine months of 2013 and for 31.4 percent of all imported services, Belstat said.

The export of transport services increased by 7.3 percent year-on-year to total $2,831.7 million and the import of transport services totaled $1,063.3 million, a 4.2-percent decrease.

The export of construction services rose by 140 percent to total $589.7 million, while the import of construction services increased by 80 percent to total $742.3 million.

The export of computer services increased by 42.1 percent to total $379.9 million and the import of such services rose by 36.2 percent to total $50.4 million.

The export of telecommunications services fell by 4.6 percent to total $134.6 million and the import of such services amounted to $85 million, a 23.5-percent year-on-year decrease.

A total of $82 million worth of architectural, engineering and technical services was exported in the first nine months of 2013, 36.7 percent more than in the same period the previous year, whereas the import of such services totaled $97.1 million, a 0.2-percent fall.

The export of operating lease services decreased by 2.4 percent to total $88.6 million, while the import of such services fell by 23.3 percent to total $73.9 million.

The export of intellectual property increased by 21 percent to $17.3 million, while the import of intellectual property increased by 55.5 percent to $101.4 million. //BelaPAN
