Opposition candidate for Minsk City Soviet detained by traffic police
Ilya Dabratvor, a candidate for the Minsk City Soviet, was detained by traffic police in Minsk on Friday minutes after he greeted opposition activist Zmitser Dashkevich upon his release from jail.
Mr. Dabratvor, a member of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF), was on his way home from the detention center on Akrestsina Street, where he had just met the leader of an opposition group called Malady Front, when he was pulled over by traffic police. Anton Zhylko, a member of the United Civic Party and candidate for the city soviet, was riding in the car as well, said the BPF press office.
The police officers seized Mr. Dabratvor's driving license and took him to a police station. //BelaPAN
