Opposition activist arrested in Minsk after his trial
Dzmitry Paliyenka, an activist of the Russian-based outlawed National Bolshevik Party (Nazbol), was arrested by police in Minsk on Monday, immediately after his trial in a district court.
As another Nazbol activist Dzyanis Sakhar told BelaPAN, police officers made it clear to Mr. Paliyenka that that he had been arrested to prevent him from participating in a major opposition demonstration scheduled to take place in Minsk in the evening.
On Saturday, Mr. Paliyenka grabbed by police for allegedly spray-painting graffiti. He was placed in a detention center and held there until his trial. On Monday, he was sentenced to a fine and released in the courtroom.
On the night between March 4 and 5, Mr. Paliyenka was also arrested and brutally beaten up by police for spray-painting anti-government slogans near Mayakowskaha Street.
Mr. Paliyenka complained about the incident to the Investigative Committee. His associates do not rule out that police continue to put pressure on the man to punish him for filing the complaint. //BelaPAN
