Wife of former political prisoner Kavalenka charged over election boycott demonstration
The wife of former political prisoner Syarhey Kavalenka has been charged with holding an unsanctioned mass event over a two-person demonstration calling for a boycott of the March 18-23 local elections.
Alena Kavalenka has been summoned to visit a police station on Wednesday.
On March 22, Ms. Kavalenka and Yan Dzyarzhawtsaw, both members of the Conservative Christian Party, demonstrated near a polling station in Vitsyebsk. They unfurled a sign that said, "Boycott the electoral farce!" and tore "invitations to the polls" sent out by election commissions. //BelaPAN
