The 260-room four-star hotel will accommodate Teams Canada, Norway, Slovakia, Denmark, Czech Republic and Sweden during next month's world hockey championship, said the Belarusian leader's press office.

While inspecting the hotel, Mr. Lukashenka expressed a high opinion of the quality of Belarusian-made goods. Belarusian goods may not be as nicely packaged as goods in the West, but their quality surpasses that of European goods, he stressed.

Mr. Lukashenka suggested that newly built hotels in Minsk should have Belarusian furniture.

The hotel was built by Moscow-based Mospromstroi that is said to be owned by Russian billionaire Mikhail Gutseriyev. //BelaPAN
